I've used Limewire and Shareaza over the past 3 years but I also buy some CDs from the shops. If more of the songs I was after were available in the shops, I'd buy them there. The shop CDs are often very overpriced though.

I never buy C.R.A.P. music. (Content Restriction, Annulment, and Protection) I am furious at the idea of paying for a song and then being told I can only play it so many times and that I can't listen to it on more than one or two machines. It is perfectly legal and ethical to make a copy for your own use. Now, if you "share" that copy with someone else or sell it, then that's stealing.

I buy CDs and then rip them to my computer in mp3 format, then keep the CD as my backup. I play the songs on my computer, or I copy them to my mp3 player. I do not allow anyone else to rip songs from my CDs -- in fact, I've had to stop loaning my CDs to people for this reason. Occasionally, I'll download songs that the artist has made available as a free download.
